UEC International (Pvt) Ltd. (UEC) is the newest company in the group. Formed as an Associate company of UTO, it will complement the latter’s efforts in the various markets. The key reason for a separate entity to host Exhibitions is that Sri Lanka is now seen as a viable and attractive venue to host such events. The lustre of Sri Lanka as an attractive location has grown considerably since the cessation of a war that lasted almost three decades.

Indian companies are a special target market for UEC. In the past, many Indian corporate have opted for Sri Lanka in order to hold conferences, summits etc., since it has proved to be a very cost effective and viable alternative to conducting such events within India. Cost is a prime determinant as to why such companies have chosen Sri Lanka, while other factors such as logistical arrangements as well as the serenity of the venues have played a significant role.

The UTO group will enter a new phase in its history when it will jointly host a first-of-its-kind event in the Maldives. This dovetails into the UTO’s group’s efforts to position itself as a MICE operator not just for Sri Lanka but also for the entire South Asian region.
